Derek van Pelt has been in the Kingdom of Thailand since 1997 when he came to work for the Thai Royal Family at Chitralada Palace School for a year.
Mr. van Pelt is currently a Partner at Stonelotus Ventures, as well as at Smiling Albino Ltd. His prior work experience also includes working for TravelGuide.com as well as starting and subsequently selling Datcorp Co. Ltd. Mr. van Pelt has also been an advisor to the Thammasat Business School MIM program since 2015.
Mr. van Pelt joined the CANCHAM THAILAND Board in 2010 and was previously a past Vice President. He is frequently seen at CANCHAM THAILAND events either behind the scenes or behind the microphone. He looks forward to continuing his work with, and support of, the Canadian community in Thailand.
Vice President, Sasin Management School
Dean Outerson has worked in Thailand for the past 15 years and has lived and worked in Asia for 30 years, having previously lived in Japan and Indonesia. Currently, he is Ambassador & Writer-in-Residence at Sasin School of Management (Chulalongkorn University), Thailand’s first internationally accredited business school.
Dean has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Bangkok South since 2007 and served as President in 2018-2019. He has served on the CanCham Board of Directors since 2012. Dean was born in Canada, grew up in Florida, USA, and has Canadian citizenship. He has a background in writing and editing and has a keen interest in online education, literature, and history.
Vice President, Chandler MHM
David has been a representative at CanChamThailand for four years, and has served as a director at the chamber for the past two years. He is originally from Ottawa, but his last home in Canada was in Montreal where he attended law school. David has been in Asia for over ten years, having previously lived in Japan, Mongolia and China.
David is a Counsel at Chandler MHM Limited (CMHM). Prior to joining CMHM, he gained experience as a consultant at a respected international law firm in Bangkok. He regularly represents lenders and borrowers in cross-border lending in oil, gas, mining, renewable energy, and manufacturing sectors. David has also advised on numerous complex commercial transactions such as cross-border joint ventures, M&As, loan portfolio acquisitions, and greenfield infrastructure projects.
Treasurer, Stonelotus Ventures
Beginning in 1998, Dan McKay spent 10 years in Thailand with the Churchill Pryce Group working in corporate financial advisory, with a focus on debt restructuring and boutique M&A. He managed a team of 30 advisory staff (ex-patriots & Thai nationals), completing financial restructures carrying over USD 625 million of debt. Industries covered included: petroleum, property development, manufacturing, agriculture, and media.
After returning to Canada with SGS for 7 years, Dan returned to Thailand to focus on investing in, and working with, early-stage businesses. As a director of the Stonelotus Group, Dan assists businesses in raising capital, setting strategy, and implementing business management systems.
Secretary, Trends Digital
Currently Managing Director at Trends Digital Ltd, providing Social Media & Digital professional services for international companies. Sample partner clients include Lenovo, Motorola, Mars International, Unilever, Minor International, among others.
Trends Digital was founded in April 2013 and based in Bangkok, Thailand with a team of~40 specialists providing solutions with platform partners such as Google, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Line (Naver), Twitter, and others. Services also include Social Media Monitoring, Social Listening, and Consumer Management software & tools for sentiment and social media intelligence.
Sunny is originally from Montreal, Canada and attended University of Western Ontario (UWO) in London, Ontario with a BA (Honors) in Philosophy, MBA from INSEAD, and CFA designation.
Mr. John Casella has more than 25 years of professional experience in accounting, consulting and management positions for a wide range of companies and projects in S.E. Asia and North America. John is the Managing Partner at PKF Tax and Consulting Services (Thailand) Limited where he has successfully built a strong team over the past 10+ years providing a broad range of expertise, including: taxation compliance and tax advisory services, outsourced accounting and payroll, corporate legal support, and risk management services. During the past 5 years, John also opened PKF Audit and PKF Advisory for PKF Thailand, which both acquired SEC License status last year.
Previously, John spent 10 years providing corporate advisory services for Churchill Pryce Capital throughout SE Asia, including corporate debt restructuring, operational consulting, M&A due diligence, business valuation, etc. from 1998 to 2008. John started his professional career in 1992 as an auditor at the Canadian head office of Arthur Andersen & Co. in Toronto.
Director, Unilever Thailand and Regional Head, mainland ASEAN
Mr. Robert Candelino was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Unilever Thai Group of Companies in 2017 and in 2019 assumed further responsibilities for total business operations of Unilever Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Brunei – a €2 billion business in total. Mr. Candelino is also responsible for more than 8000 Unilever employees.
Mr. Candelino joined Unilever Canada in an internship programme in 1997 and has since gained a wide breadth of experiences working in in many parts of the business such as Customer Development (Sales), Innovation, Brand Marketing and General Management roles all over the world.
Mr. Candelino and the teams have received many esteemed industry awards over the years such as “Integrated Campaign of the Year – Dove Men+Care” from AdWeek and Dove being named one of “America’s Hottest Brands” by Ad Age. Additionally, he has received several personal honours including being named as a “40 under 40” marketing executive from both Ad Age and Sports Business Daily in 2013. In 2008, Marketing Week in the UK named Rob a “Power 100” marketer.
Director, Success Canada
Mr. Surachit (ART) Chanovan is a CanCham member in ‘good standing’ and well known to the CanCham Board. As an active member of the Chamber’s Education Sector, he has been a strong advocate of quality education for Thai students and served as the Country Director of a CanCham member company, Canadian Education Centre Network (CECN) – Thailand Branch until the network’s global closure in January, 2010. He served as a CanCham Board Director for many years from his first year in 2003. Mr. Chanovan received the CanCham’s Business Excellence Award in the “Best Canada-Thai Linkages” Category in 2003 for his efforts in promoting Canada as education destination for Thai students.
Mr. Chanovan has been the Managing Director of “Success Canada.org” since February 1, 2010. Like CECN, this new entity follows the same pattern in promoting Canadian education to Thai students. Mr. Chanovan is an expert with extensive knowledge in areas of Education/ Travel/ International Relations and Transportation & Communications with his experiences working at various multinational corporations such as Regional Manager Asia Pacific of Amadeus and Country Manager of Air New Zealand. He was a graduate in International Relations from one of the finest State Universities in the U.S., University of Delaware, in which one of its distinguished graduates was former U.S.VP Joe Biden.
Director, Fling Y
Michael has been involved as a participant CanCham Thailand events since arriving here in April 2016, and is delighted to have the opportunity to give back to the organization that has provided him with numerous personal and professional opportunities.
He has previous board experience, having run board meetings for OpenWorm in his capacity as Executive Director from 2016 to 2019. From 2012 to 2016 he was a director of DanceSportAlberta, a sports nonprofit organization. He also served as Treasurer of DanceSportAlberta from 2012 to 2015.
Since July 2018 he has acted as Chairman and Founder of Fling Company Limited, a Thai corporation providing drone and AI services to large state and private enterprises. He is committed to remaining in Thailand and building a successful business and future here.
Director, Asia Pacific
Amélie is thrilled to be one of CanCham Thailand's new Directors. She has lived and worked abroad on and off for 12 years, in 8 countries spread across 5 continents, and the past 3 years especially in Asia. For six months now, Bangkok has been her new home. Through all the diversity in culture, business approaches, and logistical challenges that she has personally experienced, one thing that always remained consistent across the globe is the tight-knit yet always powerful network of Canadians that she has met through various Canadian Embassies and Canadian Chambers of Commerce.
Having lived in Hong Kong from 2017-2019, she was an active member of CanCham Hong Kong, participating in the Women's Network and organized series of events with the Young Professional Committee. She believes that she can contribute to strengthen the Chamber by taking an active role in supporting the expansion of CanCham's network in Thailand and in APAC. She also looks forward to supporting existing flagship events and brainstorming about new series of events that could be of interest for CanCham's members. She would also appreciate leading and taking forward a sub-committee, if such an opportunity exist.
Mr. Ron Livingston has more than 30 years of professional experience in the management of natural resources. He holds a BSc. and a Masters Degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Manitoba.
Mr. Livingston is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of International Environmental Management, which has offices in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar. Mr. Livingston is also Chairman of Oxigon, a software company that specializes in Health Care Solutions. Mr. Livingston is a former Vice-Chairman and Director of the Board of Trade of Thailand; past President of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce of Thailand and currently the Vice Chairman of the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce of Thailand.
Director, Oracle (Thailand)
Natasak Rodjanapiches, is an Advisory Board Member for Elernity Thailand Co., Ltd. He is also a current Vice Chairman of Digital & E-Commerce Sub-committee at the Board of Trade Of Thailand; an Independent Director for CIMB Thai Public Co., Ltd; and Director at Things On Net, an Internet of Things company in Thailand.
Formerly, Natasak was the Managing Director for Oracle Corporations Thailand from 1997-2018 with dual ASEAN regional responsibilities for three years during that tenure. Prior to his role at Oracle, Natasak managed Tandem Computers International for Indochina region.
Natasak spent over 15 years in Canada with an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Computer Sciences from McGill University; and Master Degree in Management Sciences from University of Waterloo.
Managing Partner, Stonelotus Ventures
John Stevens is a Canadian entrepreneur living in Bangkok with business interests in Asia Pacific. John is Managing Partner of Stonelotus Ventures – which provides angel investment and strategic support to early stage businesses in Southeast Asia. Since 2011, the group has funded and provides ongoing management support for several investee companies. John’s key areas of expertise include deal origination, fundraising, strategy, marketing and investor relations.
Formerly, John was Founder and Managing Director of Rabbit Rewards – the loyalty and membership program for Rabbit Card – Thailand’s leading mass transit and retail smartcard under BTS Group.
Prior to Rabbit Rewards, John was Founder and MD of POV Media Group – a leading media company headquartered in Thailand which operates one of the largest digital out of home advertising networks in the country. John sold POV to VGI Global Media PCL in 2009.
John is a Vancouverite by birth and is a graduate of the University of British Columbia. He later attended the Asia Pacific Management Cooperative Program at Capilano College which led to his post-graduate degree and internship at the Embassy of Canada in Bangkok.
John has served on the board of the Thai-Canadian Chamber of Commerce from 1999 to 2005 and from 2010 to present. He has been awarded Entrepreneur of the Year and is active in organizing several Chamber events and leading a number of marketing initiatives.
Honourary Advisor, Embassy of Canada to Thailand
Sanjeev Chowdhury is from Halifax, Nova Scotia. He is a graduate of Saint Mary’s University (B. Comm) and the American Graduate School of International Management (MBA). He joined Canada’s foreign service in 1995 and has served in Mumbai, Ho Chi Minh City, Rio de Janeiro, and, now, Bangkok, arriving in July 2019, where he is the Senior Trade Commissioner at the Canadian Embassy, a four year posting. In the span of a 25 year career in the Canadian government, Mr. Chowdhury has been Consul General in two of his four postings (Vietnam and Brazil) and was Dean of the Consular Corps during the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. He is the recipient of the UNESCO Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City Insignia and Vietnam Peace and Friendship medals, holds an honorary doctorate from Augusto Motta University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is the only Canadian to be made an honorary citizen of Rio de Janeiro, and, in Thailand, is a board member (Rotary Foundation Chair) of the Rotary Club of Bangkok South.
Honourary Advisor, Embassy of Canada to Thailand
Mr. Gabriel Laflamme (MA [International Studies], Institut québécois des hautes études internationales at Laval University, 2011) joined the Department of Global Affairs Canada in 2012. From 2012 to 2014, he served as trade commissioner in the Southeast Asian Division (OSC) covering Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Singapore. He then joined the Trade Sector Bureau (BBD) where he was advisor to the Director General from 2014 to 2016. While at Global Affairs Canada, Mr. Laflamme had temporary duty assignments in Malaysia and in Singapore. In his current position, Mr. Laflamme is responsible for the aerospace and defence & security sectors as a trade commissioner.
